I believe this is the creation of a word by an teenager. Or an early learner of german language.

One example I had heard of,
"Be Wareful",

Awful barbaric swapping of
Be Aware and Be Careful.

In spanish we have the concept of the word, but it is a aphorism of a sentence, not a word.

And of course the use of broken aphorisms is barely used in german because of the agglutinative nature of the language.

It is sad but we have to concur:

I think the right word would be "Scheisseleidtun" as in "Es tut mir scheiße leid" (I really, really regret this). Almost no one uses this anymore. Maybe because the generation which would use this, seldom uses the "Scheisse"-words? "Bedauern" means the same as "Leidtun"

PS: If it helps anyone of you: I live near Cologne and am a native speaker

Hi, I am German, too, and I have to agree: It's not a German word. This is a harsh way to put it because German language allows so-called "Ad-hoc-Bildungen" (which translates roughly as "making up a new word on the spot in the moment of need"). Sometimes these newly found words even end up in the dictionary. But "Scheissenbedauern" is not built according to German grammar. If it were an "Ad-hoc-Bildung" it would have to be "Scheißbedauern" (or "Scheissbedauern" if you can't type the letter ß) because in composed nouns "Scheiße" becomes "Scheiß...". But "Scheißbedauern" would only be a way to emphasize "Bedauern". It would not mean "to regret shit" but to regret something very, very much. And to me, Scheißbedauern doesn't sound very witty or memorable.

Ever been disappointed when something turns out better than you expected? Lots of Germans have because they invented a word for it: scheissenbedauern.

Unlike Torschlusspanik or Schadenfreude 'scheissenbedauern' is not a word coined by Germans but the invention of an American writer. Hence I don't think it should be in 'You know when you've been Tingoed ',a book on curious foreign words. Although I am German, the first time I came across this word was in the 'books and arts' section of The Economist - and, shocked by my seeming lack of mother tongue, instantly googled it to end up on this page.

We Germans love our compound nouns (like those two mentioned above) but a compound verb (scheissenbedauern = to shit + to regret) sounds very awkward to our ears. So if you want to help us Germans to enrich our language, try to stick to the compound nouns but don't experiment with compound verbs. Or else it would be scheissenbedauerlich!

just to add to the previous comments: me too (german too...) never heard of any term even slightly similar to "scheissenbedauern" either. It seems to be a typical citation of somebody who doesn't know the language but has heard about it from somebody else who doesn't speak the language either but has heard... The term is wrong even in its grammatical construction :-( .

Maybe the suitable English word for the discussion connected to this obscure linguistic creation is "crap"? Please excuse a non-native speaker ;-) .

Well, I am German, but never ever heard of "Scheissenbedauern" and I don't mind using any scheisse words at all ;-)
I like the thought behind it, though. What dialect should that be? Or where did you find it?
